A very un-happy New Year wish from the Rajapakse Govt. to people with Gas, flour and 8 essential items prices up!

Even before the dawn of the New Year 2008, the Rajapakse Govt., has yet again raised the prices of flour, gas and eight essential food items !

The price of a cylinder of gas has risen by Rs. 155.00! The price of flour by Rs. 8.00 per kilo! This hike follows closely on the heels of the steep price increases made just two months ago. The price of flour going up by Rs. 13.00 last time shot up all flour based products including bread, the staple diet of the poorer classes!

As the Govt. has failed to give concessionary tax rates, the Traders too are forced to increase the price of sugar by Rs.10.00 per kilo, tinned fish by 12.00 , red lentil by Rs. 4.00, Batana lentil by Rs.38.00, dried chillies by Rs. 30.00, green gram by Rs 18.00 and gram by Rs.33.00 !!

When all the Leaders and Govts. of the world are providing and striving to find relief for their people in the New Year, Rajapakse Bros. Govt. is unique in that it is rejoicing heaping all the burdens on the people. Can this ruthless and reckless attitude be explained on the Rajapakse mania to exploit every event and occasion to impose hardships on the people?
