Staff helped in jail break

 Members of the prisons staff are believed to have had a hand in the escape of eight prisoners from the Batticaloa jail.

Three prisons officials, who were on duty the day the prisoners, including two LTTE suspects, escaped are to be produced before Courts, sources said.

Special security arrangements to prevent LTTE suspects, held at the Kalutara Priso escaping, have been put in place after the Batticaloa incident police said adding that a committee to investigate the escape, had been appointed by the Commissioner General of Prisons Major Gen (Retd) Vajira Wijegunawardena.
