Vasu looks in vain for new Mayor

By Ariyaratne Ganegoda
Colombo’s UPFA mayoral candidate Vasudeva Nanayakkara who took oaths as CMC Opposition leader before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday was a disappointed man as he could not meet Mayor M.U. Imitiaz to congratulate and assure him of his support.

Mr. Nanayakkara and his 14- member group were warmly welcome after they arrived at the Town Hall after the swearing-in.

After the reception Mr. Nanayakkara called at the Mayor’s office but since Mr. Imitiaz was not available he had gone to Mayor’s official residence. Unable to locate him there too, Mr. Nanayakkara had then gone to Mr. Imithiaz’s Mattakkuliya residence which was also found closed.

“What he is by vocation or whether he is educated or not is immaterial and irrelevant. We are prepared to extend our cooperation to him,” Mr. Nanayakkara told journalists.
