Sri Lanka’s first fiberglass smart Tri-car By Damayanthi Hewamanna

The first fiberglass tri-car Econo F200 was launched last Saturday by Ecowheels which is subsidiary of a Weightech who are the exclusive agents for Mettler Toledo Electronic Scales and a market leader in industrial scales.

“This is mainly for those who have but not so much to own a brand new car as a decent mode of transport for their family or business”, Ecowheels Ltd Chairman Nissanka M. Ediriwira said at the press conference. Our main objective is to provide a reasonably priced car for those who have not so much he added.

The Econo F200 Tri-car has all the features and facilities of a standard car except the fact that it has only three wheels which gives a light steering. This has been made to fit the Sri Lankan climate and can carry up to four persons plus baggage in any type of road condition. Also the other features and advantages of this new model is that unlike a trishaw where it makes the passenger to bend and travel in an uncomfortable position the Tri-car has plenty of space to sit and stretch your legs nicely and travel in style. Since the vehicle doesn’t have an air conditioner there’s a spring operated air vent that gives natural air as you cruise along in any weather. It is a five door, four seater car in molded fiberglass body with an easy steering wheel and floor gear, and comes with dual crystal head lamps. The back seat folds down for ample baggage space with a third brake light at the top of the car. The vehicle travels at a maximum speed of 60kmh and has a single cylinder 4 stroke water cooled 200cc engine.

The Econo has been fully tested, examined and approved by the Motor Traffic Department for both personal and public use. Ecowheels has been appointed as the exclusive agent in Sri Lanka by the manufacturers in China. Mr. Ediriwira said that for the first fifty customers he will give a special offer. The Tri-car is available at Rs.428, 000 plus VAT and will be reduced to Rs.455, 000. After one has bought the car, after service is available and parts of the body can be bought from any repair place. The company has already begun an advertising campaign and hopes to be successful with their products and hope that people especially in the villagers will purchase one for their day to day work. The Econo 5 door Fiberglass Tri-car comes at a very affordable price and is inexpensive to run and maintain thereby saving money on transport. -Daily Mirror
