Three soldiers killed by the LTTE in a jaffna clash

By Walter Jayawardhana

As the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam clashed with the Sri Lanka Army and killed three soldiers in Jaffna peninsula, Norwegian Ambassador in Colombo Hans Bratskar went to Kilinochchi and held discussions with the rebel group’s political head S. P. Thamilchelvan.

This is the first time the Norwegians met the LTTE after they launched an artillery attack slightly injuring the US and Italian Ambassadors who were in a humanitarian delegation visiting Batticaloa. The delegation was led by the human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe.

The Norwegian Embassy or the pro-LTTE website did not announce why Brattskar visited the rebel stronghold.

During early in Monday the LTTE clashed with the army at Mirusavil in Jaffna killing three soldiers but casualties among the Tamil Tigers were immediately not known although heavy casualties were caused to them. Many had been carried by the fleeing rebels from the battlefield.

Military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said, “One of our patrols confronted some LTTE cadres and three soldiers were killed.”
