Sirasa Superstar Surendra should have won!
Sirasa Superstar, which was one of the most watched and followed events next to the Cricket World Cup final, ended on Saturday night. However, many people were disappointed as Surendra Perera should have been the winner. Pradeep Rangana should consider himself very lucky to have won this event. Many questioned the validity of SMS voting and felt that contestants should have been judged by an independent panel of judges. Furthermore, the telecommunication network that was receiving the SMS in the area where Surendra came from was jammed for a certain period of time, which prevented thousands of his supporters from voting for him.
It is evident that there have been some unscrupulous persons who benefited from this event and prevented the best person from winning this title. One also wonders whether his faith was a factor that went against him and thus discriminated. By Jennifer Van Twest-TN

It was clear that judges were also favouring pradeep. Chandrika went up to the extent of getting up from the seat to commend praddp which is not sutable for a judge. Next time judges should be given traning how to make judgements / comments. All in all this contravacy has made SURENDRA more popular and more powerful. All for the best.

It was the judges killed the chances of Surendra becoming the Superstar.
Pradeep being Medical Student and the comments made by the judges by linking his acedemic and his singing talents gave the much need boost when it come to the final rounds. The judges are there to give comments on the singing talent on not the individuals acedemic career. By giving extra comments on Pradeeps acedemic qualification it change the opinion of most people in this country. I have found many people gave their vote to Pradeep because of being Medical Student or “Doctor” as mentioned by the judjes and also to his singing talents.
Had the judges in the competition reserved their comments based on Singing Talents without interferring ones acedemic qualification or career I have no doubt Surendra would have been the Sirasa Superstar

100% agreed with F Jurangpathy’s statement.because there are so many who doesn’t know the music,but voted to pradeep,because he is a docter….not for the singing style…when some one having dream about this super star,before apply for this competition,it’s better to take a digree….(not for the music lovers,only for the judges)

There are so many people in our country who still think that ” Doctor or Engineer is the only proper job” a person can have. I think many of us can think about at least few people we know who would send 15-20 sms as soon as they hear Chandrika saying “Dostara puthe”.
Biased comments of Chandrika and rest of the judges (except Raju) helped Praddep a lot in his victory.
The question is, Was sirasa or the judges looking for a Doctor who could also sing ………or a simply brilliant singer?????????????
Anyway, this incident regarding final has given extra popularity to Surendra and I am sure he’ll become a superb singer in SL music field.

I will agrre to all the comments given before it is for sure that Surendra is the best out of every body.It was no dought that Surendra should be crowned as the Sirasa Super Star.It was very unplesent situation on that day.Surendra’s voice & his rythem any body could not match. As the judges were talking so much about predeep i feel that is very unfair by others since every body can’t Docters.every body have thier tallents & their prideness educational qulifications shoulden’t be counted we were looking for a best & populer singer. any way Surendra is the best he is not copping any body & He sings without any effort .And also i will not agrre about the sms system on that day .All the best for surendra.
By singing Jothipala’s songs only nobody can be a Superstar. Surendra has a sweet voice. There is no argument behind that. But the Superstar is Pradeep Rangana.because he is a allrounder. Others ( Surendra Perera) are doing music from morning to night and night to morning. But in the case of Pradeep it is not like that. He is doing a seperate work.At the same time he has improved his music ability.Learning for medicne is not an easy task. At the same time he has found the time to leran music. So we should appriciate him.Mrs Chandrika and othre judges sould appriciate him. because he has muli talents.So dont jelous of him. He is a rare person who has multi talents.

How can Surendra come on top in all 10 final rounds, while Pradeep just managed to hang on till the end but beat Surendra only in the 11th round which was the final?

Thanks Deepani and Kanchana on agreeing my views. I think the judges realised the mistake they made considering the rather sober and unexpected response from them when Pradeep was made Superstar. Pradeep is good and talented singer but Surendra Perera had the voice and the presentation of singing style has hallmark of a great singer for our future of this country. That is what people of this country must consider when selecting a superstar. It should be 100% singling talent not other curricular acitivities. In the future Sirasa Supserstar programess I hope the judges who will be selecting future competitors please mind their business solely on singing talents not one acedemic career or other acitivities activites otherwise pure talented singers will loose faith in these tupe of programess if judge dont use their common sense on selecting the correct competitors. I HOPE SIRASA ORGANISER TAKE A NOTE OF IT

I think chandrika siriwardhana must be held responsible for giving mental harassments to surendra by prasing pradeep too much. We were wondering whether she, as a judge was mad to go to that extent of prasing a competitor & crying for him. we all saw that she was compensated for all what she did for pradeep. She is not sutable to appoint a judge next time.
I wish Surendra should sing in the style of Jothipala. Every singer have its unique style and Jothipala songs really suits Surendra but should sing in this style of singing . A singer should not try imitate another singer, for example its difficult for any good singer to imitate Mohideen Baig as he posses unique style and voice which is difficult imitate. Only his son have succeeded so far. Pradeep is good singer but he needs to idendtify what type of songs suite him not by singing songs which dont suit his voice as his voice is nothing extra-ordinary unlike Surendra voice is sharp can be pleasent to hear on TV or Radio or in cinema as a backup singer for our future actors.

THIS CONTEST IS ABOUT FINDING THE BEST SINGER/ENTERTAINER/PERFORMER. IF WE NEED TO FIND THE BEST ALLROUNDER NEXT TIME SIRASA SHOULD CONDUCT THIS ONLY IN UNIVERSITIES AND OTHER ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS!!!

I am in Singapore and I watched SSS on Youtube last three days..It is really big surprise..How could on this earth Pradeep can be the SS..?really irritating singer..I think Chandrika and Jagath have eyers somewhere else…it is very clear Surendra, Amila,Buddika,Sanka and Gamini are the best competitors.. pradeep sucks…Surendra is the real start..cant stop watching his videos… I would love to see Surendra and Amila sign together one day…

This is after 2 n half years after this happened. Where is Surendra n Pradeep. Pradeep is having a good excuse Every other week he will have exams (MCQs) and has lot of stress in completing his studies. I wish him well. But what is Surendra’s excuse. He is not heard off.
The whole idea of reality shows is not to find a Latha Mangeshkar or Mukesh or Rafi or Hari haran or Nanda Malini or Amaradeva or Victor Ratnayake or Jothipala, but to develop good entertainers. Those who sent SMSs to Pradeep is may be because he is a Medical Student. Surendra he is little better than Pradeep, but can we compare both of them with these names i mentioned. Pradeep we may see after another couple of years. lets wait
